To deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and Xi Jinping’s Thought on the Rule of Law, further enhance minors’ awareness of the rule of law, strengthen their legal consciousness, civic awareness, and sense of discipline, build a harmonious and civilized campus environment, and elevate minors’ awareness of respecting, learning, abiding by, and applying the law, on the afternoon of April 26, Attorney Li Lizhi, Deputy Director of the Public Welfare Committee of Tongfang Law Firm, and Attorney Yu Liyuan, Secretary-General, were invited to visit the Shenbei Branch of Nanchang Middle School. Attorney Yu Liyuan delivered a legal education lecture titled “Using the Rule of Law to Nurture Growth on Campus and Building a Virtuous Youth for a Brighter Future” to more than 600 teachers and students across the school.

In this lecture, Attorney Yu Liyuan thoroughly explored three key areas: “Youth Law by Your Side, Illuminating the Path of Adolescence,” “Healthy and Civilized Internet Use, Safeguarding a Bright Youth,” and “Preventing School Bullying, Building a Harmonious Campus Together.”

At the beginning of the lecture, Attorney Yu Liyuan explained the basic content and significant importance of the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China. She particularly emphasized the Civil Code’s protection of the rights and interests of minors. Using vivid case studies—such as “Is it illegal to post someone else’s embarrassing photos without permission?” and “Can minors reclaim large sums of money they’ve gifted to livestreamers?”—she engaged in interactive discussions with the students. These cases not only resonated closely with the students’ daily lives but also enabled them to deeply appreciate the crucial role that law plays in their everyday routines.

Subsequently, Attorney Yu Liyuan provided a detailed interpretation of the “Regulations on the Protection of Minors Online.” Drawing on real-life cases, she explained to the students how to surf the internet safely and responsibly, avoid online hazards, seek help when encountering cyberbullying, and safeguard their personal information. She also specifically reminded the students to be vigilant against new types of crimes such as online scams and the crime of aiding and abetting cybercrime, and emphasized the importance of enhancing their ability to protect themselves in the online world as well as their capacity to identify and respond to online risks.

Finally, Attorney Yu Liyuan used vivid case examples to explain to the students the concept of campus bullying, its various types and characteristics, the legal responsibilities that come with it, and the potential criminal charges involved. She also shared effective methods for preventing campus bullying and provided practical tips on how to respond if one encounters such harassment. She encouraged the students to bravely stand up for their own rights and interests when faced with bullying, to learn self-protection skills, and to avoid becoming victims, bullies, or bystanders who remain silent or turn a blind eye. She urged them to boldly say “no” and promptly seek help from teachers and parents, and—when necessary—to resort to legal means.

This public legal education lecture delivered on campus sparked an enthusiastic response among teachers and students, receiving unanimous praise. The lecture not only enhanced students’ awareness and understanding of the rule of law but also strengthened their ability to protect themselves and guard against potential risks, thereby laying a solid foundation for campus safety and stability. In the future, Tongfang Public Welfare Committee will fully leverage the professional expertise of lawyers in the public welfare sector, actively fulfill its social responsibilities, and continue to engage in public legal education activities on campuses. We will proactively guide students to become loyal advocates, conscientious observers, and firm defenders of the socialist rule of law.
