“Four seasons all bring joy—yet none compares to the freshness of early autumn.” As the sweltering heat of summer gradually recedes and the world grows ever more expansive, Tongfang’s annual team-building event kicks off precisely at this transition between summer and autumn. From August 28th to 31st, over 60 Tongfang lawyers gathered in Shandong. At Jinshatan Beach in Yantai, we kept company with whales; from Chengshan Head, we gazed upon towering cliffs; along the shores of Naxianghai, we strolled hand-in-hand as the sun set; and at Penglai Pavilion, we explored stone carvings and couplets everywhere. Amidst mountains and seas, Tongfang continues to move forward, constantly searching, exploring, and reaching new horizons.

DAY 1

Yantai 4A Jinsha Beach Seaside Bathing Area

Here, the sea is a brilliant blue, and the beach boasts fine, soft sand. A colossal whale statue rises from the shore. We stroll barefoot along the endless coastline—gentle slopes, crystal-clear waters, and fine, silky sand. The gentle sea breeze gently carries away the fatigue of our workdays.

Suo Cheng Li

Built in the 31st year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty (1398), this fortress city—one of the best-preserved Ming and Qing military garrisons in China—has quietly witnessed Yantai’s development over the long span of centuries. With its blue brick walls and green-tiled roofs, and towering ancient ramparts, every cobblestone street bears the marks of 600 years of vicissitudes.

DAY 2

Liu Gong Island

We set off by boat, heading toward the island accompanied by seagulls. Liu Gong Island is nestled in Weihai Bay at the eastern tip of the Shandong Peninsula. It boasts a rich and unique cultural landscape—home to ancient sites dating back over a thousand years from the Warring States period, the beautiful legend of Liu Gong and his wife from the Han Dynasty, as well as historical relics from the First Sino-Japanese War, including the former headquarters of the Beiyang Navy’s fleet admiral during the Qing dynasty, the Naval Academy, and ancient artillery batteries. Basking in the sea breeze, we marvel at how time flows like a timeless melody, and before these historic sites, we carry forward their enduring spirit.

DAY 3

Chengshan Head

Here is the place on mainland China where the sun rises earliest. Beneath the stone stele marked “The End of the Heavens,” towering cliffs loom majestically, and massive waves crash against the shore, sending up sprays of snow. The ancient sacrificial rituals are imbued with the reverence and love that people have held for nature over the course of thousands of years.

That Fragrant Sea

Here is nature’s gift to humanity. We live by the sea, where the window frames a palette of ocean hues, and the sea breeze carries gentle postcards from afar. We stroll barefoot along the beach at sunset, as the tide rises and falls, whispering the moon’s heartfelt secrets.

DAY 4

Penglai Pavilion

This is a sacred sanctuary reserved by the gods. Inside the pavilion, you’ll find countless treasures—calligraphic masterpieces by renowned literati, as well as exquisite stone carvings of couplets and inscriptions. When Penglai Pavilion first met Su Dongpo, it was still a youthful 25-year-old; today, however, this venerable pavilion has already surpassed a thousand years in age. Standing within its walls and gazing out at the sea, we’re struck by a landscape that remains unchanged through the ages. Like a wise elder, Penglai Pavilion lifts us up, enabling us to see higher, farther, and with an even broader heart and mind.

Day and night alternate, the moon sets as the sun rises. All things in this world follow the same great path. This shared journey offers a brief respite from the toil of paperwork and desk work. After this rest, Tongfang Lawyers will set off again with renewed vigor and even greater enthusiasm.
