Recently, at the invitation of Wang Runfeng, General Manager of the Insurance Department at the Liaoning Province Banking and Insurance Dispute Mediation Center, lawyer Wang Zhanping, Deputy Director of the Financial, Insurance, and Securities Specialized Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Lawyers Association (and Head of the Insurance Group), along with lawyer Xu Pengen, a member of the committee, visited the Insurance Department of the Liaoning Province Banking and Insurance Dispute Mediation Center to hold a legal symposium. This symposium marked the first joint initiative between the Provincial Lawyers Association’s Financial and Insurance Committee and the Insurance Department of the Mediation Center.
The central theme of this symposium is to explore and exchange views on the legal issues encountered in disputes between insurance consumers and insurance companies regarding life and property insurance. The aim is to address specialized challenges in insurance dispute mediation and to promote deeper integration between the legal profession and the insurance industry.
At the symposium, lawyer Wang Zhanping emphasized that life insurance and property insurance, as the two major pillars of the insurance industry, play an irreplaceable role in safeguarding socio-economic development and maintaining financial stability. At the same time, he also pointed out several issues and challenges currently facing the insurance industry in its development, such as the need to further refine the Insurance Law and its Judicial Interpretations, the issue of standardizing adjudication criteria for dispute resolution, and the protection of consumers’ rights and interests.
In the subsequent session, Deputy Director Wang Zhanping, Attorney Xu Peng'en, and other members of the Jinbao Committee provided detailed explanations and elaborations on more than ten insurance-related legal issues—covering both life insurance and property insurance—that the mediation center frequently encounters. They drew upon the Supreme People's Court’s views and their own case-handling experience to offer comprehensive insights.
In the final segment of the symposium, lawyer Wang Zhanping stated that the Financial and Insurance Committee of the Provincial Lawyers Association will provide long-term support for the work of the Mediation Center and offer legal assistance in resolving insurance disputes, thereby better promoting the healthy development of the insurance industry in Liaoning Province. The Financial and Insurance Committee of the Lawyers Association will also continue to closely monitor various legal issues arising from disputes between the insurance industry and insurance consumers, identify and study relevant judicial rules on insurance law, and, from an impartial perspective, safeguard the interests of both insurance companies and insurance consumers, thereby settling disputes and bringing about harmony. Everyone unanimously agreed that this legal symposium is of great significance in enhancing legal awareness and risk management capabilities within the insurance industry.
