On October 18, 2024, the Political and Legal Committee of the Chaoyang Municipal Party Committee, together with the Chaoyang Law Society, jointly hosted the third session of the “Chaoyang Political and Legal Lecture Hall” as well as the keynote lecture for the 12-City Exchange Meeting of the Criminal Defense Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Lawyers Association. In order to actively build a community of legal professionals and further enhance the judicial service capabilities of all political and legal officers and lawyers, our firm’s senior partner, Attorney Geng Luhong, was invited to deliver a special lecture.
Attorney Geng Luhong, focusing on the theme of “Crime and Non-Crime from a Lawyer’s Perspective,” used case studies to illustrate legal principles and clarify the law, thereby encouraging officers and personnel at all levels to adopt a higher vantage point and broader perspective when approaching political and legal work. This will enable them to enforce laws and administer justice more effectively using the rule-of-law mindset and principles, uphold the authority of the rule of law and ensure fairness and justice, and promote coordinated efforts in both punishing and preventing illegal and criminal activities. In doing so, they will contribute their political and legal expertise to perfecting the socialist rule-of-law system with Chinese characteristics and fostering a rule-of-law environment that respects, learns, abides by, and applies the law.
This meeting was held via video conference linking the city and county levels of Chaoyang City. The main venue was located at the Chaoyang Public Security Bureau. Attendees included members of the leading bodies of Chaoyang’s political and legal organs, mid-level cadres, and selected police officers, as well as leaders and lawyer representatives from the Provincial Lawyers Association and the Chaoyang City Lawyers Association. At the sub-venues, members of the leading bodies of political and legal organs from various counties (cities) and districts, mid-level cadres, selected police officers, and township (subdistrict) political and legal committee members also participated. In total, more than 1,000 comrades from both the city and county levels of Chaoyang simultaneously listened to and watched the meeting.
