From May 17 to 19, 2024, the first “United in Purpose, Steadfast in Action—Dynamic Youth” training camp for young lawyers, organized by the Young Lawyers Development Committee of Tongfang Law Firm, was successfully held at the Liaoning Academy of Public Security and Judicial Administration Cadres. This youth training camp featured a variety of activities, including ice-breaking games, lecture-based training, simulated courtroom exercises, and morning micro-forums, providing Tongfang’s young lawyers with a fulfilling and unforgettable learning experience.

On May 17, the opening ceremony of the training camp was officially launched.

First, lawyer Yang Xingquan, Chairman of the Partner Meeting and Director of Tongfang Law Firm, presented the opening ceremony gifts to the young lawyers.

Following that, Director Yang engaged in an in-depth discussion and exchange with the young lawyers. He introduced to them the firm’s development journey, its guiding philosophy, and its training programs for young lawyers. Director Yang pointed out that the establishment of the Tongfang Young Lawyers College and the launch of its first youth training camp represent significant initiatives by Tongfang to prioritize the development of young lawyers, strive to build a high-quality platform for their growth, and create an optimal environment for them. He expressed his hope that the young lawyers at Tongfang would cherish this rare opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and mutual learning, dare to showcase themselves, bravely challenge themselves, continuously improve themselves, and achieve even greater development and growth on the Tongfang platform.

Attorney Zhao Jing, Managing Partner at Tongfang and Senior Partner at Tongfang Free Trade Zone Office, pointed out: This youth training camp will bring together a group of outstanding mentors and experts who will share their experience and wisdom, guiding young lawyers to continuously grow in their legal practice. The training camp will employ various formats—including simulated courtroom trials, lecture-based training, team collaboration, and morning micro-forums—to enhance young lawyers' legal expertise and problem-solving abilities. We hope that through this training camp, young lawyers will acquire specialized knowledge and skills, meet like-minded peers, jointly explore legal issues, and grow and move forward together.

Director Yang pointed out that the founding purpose of the Tongfang Young Lawyers Academy is to guide the new generation of young lawyers onto the right path of growth, forge their broad perspectives and strong will, enhance their professional skills and overall competence, and cultivate top-notch talents for the legal profession and the rule of law.

Lawyer Hou Desheng, Party Branch Secretary and Director of Liaoning Tailai Law Firm, President of the Panjin Lawyers Association, Party Secretary of the Legal Profession, and Vice President of the Liaoning Lawyers Association, delivered a training session on the theme “When We Talk About Youth.” Lawyer Hou pointed out that “only hard work is the best remedy for anxiety.” He offered numerous pieces of advice to the young lawyers at Tongfang and expressed his heartfelt expectations: He hopes that young lawyers will set ambitious goals, cultivate a broad-minded spirit dedicated to benefiting the world, and develop a strong sense of mission toward serving the legal profession. He also encouraged Tongfang’s young lawyers to keep striving relentlessly on their path of growth and to cherish genuine friendships along the way.
 

Senior partner Lawyer Geng Luhong from Tongfang conducted a training session on the theme of “The Path to Professional Development for Young Lawyers.” Lawyer Geng pointed out that lawyers’ specialization is driven and propelled by society’s continuous development, the ever-emerging legal challenges, and the diversity and complexity of legal practice areas. In response to the question of “How to quickly stand out among the large number of lawyers,” Lawyer Geng offered numerous practical methods and suggestions.

On the afternoon of May 18, young lawyers formed pairs and participated in a preliminary round of simulated courtroom trials.

Subsequently, Attorney Xu Liwei, a director of the Liaoning Provincial Lawyers Association, deputy director of the Special Committee for Guidance on Lawyers’ Association Development, and vice president of the Tieling City Lawyers Association, delivered a training session on “Risk Prevention and Control for Young Lawyers in Practice.” Attorney Xu Liwei presented classic cases involving civil and criminal liabilities, systematically analyzed the risks associated with lawyers’ practice, provided detailed information on the risks of administrative penalties and disciplinary actions within the legal profession, outlined the regulations governing lawyers’ attire when appearing in court, and offered several recommendations for effectively preventing and controlling professional risks.

Attorney Cao Na, partner at Beijing Longan Law Firm, deputy director of the Dalian branch, secretary of the Civil Law Committee of the All China Lawyers Association, deputy director and concurrently secretary-general of the Construction Guidance Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Lawyers Association, and deputy director of the Corporate Law Specialized Committee of the Dalian Lawyers Association, conducted a training session on the topic “The Accelerator for Young Lawyers: Basic Training in Business Etiquette.” Attorney Cao’s presentation covered three key areas: “professional image, social etiquette, and business etiquette.” She pointed out that a young lawyer’s personal image plays an extremely important role in career development. A professional and appropriate image not only boosts a lawyer’s self-confidence but also earns clients’ trust and respect. Attorney Cao emphasized that young lawyers should comprehensively enhance their attire, speech, behavior, and professional competence, ensuring that in every interaction with clients or peers, they can fully demonstrate their professional demeanor and personal charm.

During the closing ceremony, Lawyer Cao Yuanjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tongfang Law Firm, delivered an important speech on the theme of “Crisis, Harmony, and Integrity.” He pointed out that young lawyers must always maintain a sense of crisis, uphold humility and integrity as fundamental moral qualities for lawyers, continuously enhance their professional skills, and carve out their own niche in the increasingly competitive legal profession.
